    Presenter: Frank Malangone, Chain-Sys

Until now, moving to Oracle Cloud Applications meant that you needed to throw away your setups in Oracle eBusiness Suite, PeopleSoft or JD Edwards and manually recreate them in the cloud. This manual process adds weeks to each test cycle, introducing the potential for errors and inconsistency. This webinar presents a Chain-Sys tool that provides a no-programming, automated approach to migrating setups from your Oracle on-premise HR to Oracle Cloud HCM and then managing the setups once they’re in the cloud.

What the Oracle Applications User Experience Team Did During Oracle OpenWorld 2016

The OAUX Cloud Exchange, where the OAUX team demos near-future and future concepts, was extended to three days this year. Participants included Oracle partners, industry analysts, private customer tours, global media, legislators learning about technology and a robot, which was part of an emerging technologies demo on virtual reality.

Several Cloud UX demos and messages popped up in general sessions, like the Oracle ERP Cloud. The simplified UI designs central to the Cloud user experience were a new and exciting story to share with ERP customers, so we saw it in several sessions. For more user experience excitement, this time in the Oracle HCM Cloud general session, check out this tweet showing a voice demo from the OAUX team. (The audience actually applauded.)

About 250 people came through lab tours at Oracle Headquarters in Redwood Shores, California, and nearly 100 customers and partners participated in customer feedback sessions, focus groups and a design jam at the onsite lab.

A new UX Rapid Development Kit (RDK) was also announced in time for OpenWorld. Read about what's available now in this post on the Usable Apps blog.

The OAUX IoT workshops, a joint project with the Oracle Technology Network (OTN), pulled in about 200 people who attended workshops during three days at both JavaOne and OpenWorld conferences. More tweets are on Twitter, including a short video by ACE Director Tim Hall, who is using the chip that the AppsLab, the OAUX emerging technologies team, provided post-show. He also wrote about it in this post.

Mobile Apps to Take Over HR Technology
    ComputerWeekly.com (10/25/16) Goodwin, Bill

Mobile phone applications will disrupt human resources, according to Bersin by Deloitte Principal Josh Bersin. “It has reached the point where everyone who buys HR software will buy it in the cloud,” he said. "Now HR software is becoming mobile." Bersin said large businesses have migrated their HR systems to cloud platforms run by big technology suppliers such as Oracle over the past five years. “I have met with companies with core cloud HR systems, and they say they need a new tool for project management, learning and employee engagement,” Bersin noted. “They are shopping for add-on tools that are mobile apps.” Mobile learning is the area where HR technology is expanding the fastest, and replacing traditional training courses so employees can learn more naturally. Large employers also are interested in apps that help workers stay healthy and maintain a better work-life balance. Moreover, Bersin predicted various mobile apps will supplant traditional yearly employee engagement appraisals within two years, while other apps are gaining ground as corporate culture and diversity barometers. Bersin expects all employee interactions will soon be conducted on mobile phones, and ensuring systems integration and security will be important tasks for IT professionals.

MoneyGram Sees New Efficiencies from Oracle Global HR Management
    SearchFinancialApplications (10/24/16) Ring, Dan

MoneyGram International selected Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM) Cloud to streamline onboarding and recruiting so employees can more easily receive human resources services and retool performance management and compensation planning, according to Paula Peacher, MoneyGram's Senior Director of Global Payroll and HRIS. "We have definitely realized significant savings and efficiencies in our processes by implementing the Oracle application," Peacher said. The company went live with Oracle Taleo recruitment, core HR and U.S. payroll in April, while performance management will go live in November and workforce compensation will follow in January 2017. During the deployment, MoneyGram combined Cornerstone OnDemand for learning management, Kronos for time and attendance and TotalRewards for managers to plan for complete compensation packages. Peacher said thanks to Taleo, MoneyGram saw its average time to offer a new job shortened from 62 to 40 days, and its time for a new employee to start fell from 88 to 60 days. The Oracle solution also addressed the fragmentation of onboarding by folding its various functions under one banner, and Peacher cited "tremendous" recruiting efficiencies via the Oracle HCM Cloud mobile platform. In addition, Oracle workforce compensation has supplanted the use of spreadsheets. Peacher noted MoneyGram employees and managers also can now take advantage of self-service.

Champion a New Workplace Democracy Before Employee Dissatisfaction Boils Over
    Forbes (10/18/16) Campbell, Andy

Companies should instill a democratic workplace culture that ensures employees' contributions are valued, or else face severe attrition from worker unhappiness, according to Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM) Strategy Director Andy Campbell. He cited Oracle's From Theory to Action Study, which found Western European businesses are inconsistent in their treatment of senior employees and non-managers. "While roughly 70 percent of directors and 60 percent of senior managers feel their company is concerned with their well-being, less than a quarter of those outside the management ranks feel the same," Campbell noted. He said a workplace culture that is both engaging and challenging is the solution to the satisfaction gap. "Companies that do not give employees the opportunity to showcase their talent or the incentive to push themselves risk losing out on valuable contributions," Campbell warned. He also said the oversight of non-management staff's development is another symptom endemic to many organizations, as only 21 percent of surveyed non-managers felt their training is personally tied to their development plan. "It's no secret that engaged employees are happier, more productive and more committed," Campbell said. "Our Simply Talent study found that employees who feel more engaged are less likely to look for work elsewhere."

56 Percent of Employees Don't Have the Latest Tech Needed to Do Their Job Well, Report Says
    TechRepublic (10/17/16) DeNisco, Alison

Fifty-six percent of almost 5,000 full-time employees across 20 countries said their companies lack the latest digital technology to help them perform their job well, according to Oracle and Kantar TNS' Global Engagement Study. "Employees want the same modern digital technology that they are accustomed to at home in the workplace, accessible leadership and a strong company culture that aligns with their personal values — often trumping monetary compensation," said Oracle's Gretchen Alarcon. "These factors are all influencing the degree employees feel engaged and committed to a company." The study found the modern workforce is more interested in personal alignment to a business than ever before, with engagement transitioning from a relationship founded on individual roles and commitment to one based on the fit of the organization and the individual. Only 39 percent of respondents said their organization employs online and collaborative learning tools to drive development. Moreover, just 41 percent of workers believe company onboarding practices prepare them for growth and success. Less than half of respondents considered company leaders to be visible and approachable. In addition to encouraging more openness from tech leaders, companies can improve employee engagement using digital tools to help workers improve their productivity.

How to Meet Challenges When Deploying New HR Technology
SHRM Online (10/14/16) Wright, Aliah D.

Proper training and support and making employees feel they are contributing can play into the success of new human resources (HR) technology implementations, according to Mercer's Katherine Jones. A Mercer poll of HR technology professionals about their five leading deployment plans found almost half had difficultly defining the future state of the HR organization to support new roles and responsibilities derived from human capital management (HCM) implementations. Customization, problems running reports and analytics, a lack of knowledge of and experience with HCM technology and internal resource strictures were cited as stumbling blocks. Jones said the best change management strategy is predicting its potential impact on employees, and addressing the concerns of those affected. She also said change agents should be mindful that "our HR landscape today consists of disparate systems, redundant HR processes, standalone apps, decentralized data stores, irreconcilable reports and aging and overly customized solutions and fragmented employee data." Mercer found more than half of organizations are redesigning end-to-end HR processes with new HR information system deployments. Integrations, configurations, change management, project management and reporting were named the biggest challenges. "Make sure there is a consensus among key influencers and leaders that the change is necessary," Jones said.

How to Be an Employer of Choice
    SmartCompany (Australia) (10/10/16)

Companies typically view the challenge of becoming employers of choice as a human resources task rather than one requiring input from the financial department, but this mindset is changing as new technology enables business units to bring budgets and financial objectives into alignment with hiring and workforce planning. "There are clear linkages between HR and finance," said Andrew Lafontaine, Oracle ANZ General Manager of Human Capital Management (HCM). One company using Oracle solutions to align its finance and HR departments is Solairus Aviation. "With Oracle ERP and Oracle HCM Cloud, everything is integrated," said Solairus Chief Financial Officer Mark Dennen. "We went from semi-automated, disparate systems to one integrated and automated system that enabled us to streamline our processes." Solairus can make smarter hiring decisions now that cloud-based technologies connect budget needs to employee requirements. Lafontaine said management can evaluate whether investment in training has resulted in more sales or fulfilled other financial goals. He emphasized the value of employee engagement analysis, noting workers who can participate in their career progression will be excellent organizational representatives, and will help the company outperform rivals. In addition, Lafontaine said once you have business units collaborating, your technology should be robust enough to evolve, as the organization and employee expectations and objectives will change over time.
