Leveraging big data, Scout is able to sniff out the best candidates for those hard-to-fill niche positions — enabling employers to spend their time with only the most-suitable candidates. Employers use Scout to decrease the amount of time it takes to fill a position as well as save on agency spending.

Hear Scout CEO Ken Lazarus speak Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 11-11:20 a.m. at the Palace Hotel’s Ralston Room during the Scene and Be Heard Theater Session at Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco, and learn about how big data is changing talent acquisition.

More Strings to the Bow: The Expanding Nature of HR
Human Capital Magazine (08/27/13) Edmond, Cameron

The incorporation of marketing into the human resources space is not the only required path toward HR maturation, and Oracle's John Hansen observes a growing volume of corporate data that creates a yawning skill deficit, which is a serious issue for many CEOs. "Knowing our people is going to be critical to whether we are able to execute our strategies in the future and ultimately that lack of information and insight is what worries CEOs the most," Hansen says. He stresses that HR's penetration into an understanding of big data is complicated but necessary. "People are a little bit more nebulous in nature so we need to know a lot of data points," Hansen notes. "We need a lot of content to really understand what the talent program looks like, what is bringing us success and innovation today and what is going to be needed tomorrow." Among the tools that can aid HR professionals in their incorporation of big data is Oracle's predictive modeling. "It takes all the corporate data we have and it is able to look at trends and patterns in our workforce," Hansen says. "Then it projects that into the future to see when those trends and patterns might occur again." Oracle's tool can plot trends such as when certain workers are most likely to exit the organization, and what has been done in cases where they have not departed.

Oracle's Latest PeopleSoft In-Memory App Taps Unstructured Data for 'Complex' Projects
ZDNet (08/28/13) King, Rachel

Oracle has unveiled a new in-memory app from its PeopleSoft human capital management (HCM) app unit, designed to address business challenges requiring the review of unstructured data. The PeopleSoft In-Memory Project Discovery is configured to render unstructured data as structured data, enabling users to analyze keywords, structured data, and unstructured data in Oracle's PeopleSoft Services Automation suite. The solution operates on Oracle's Exalytics in-memory machine and Oracle Endeca Information Discovery enterprise data platform. The new app enables users to facilitate actions such as searching and filtering on keywords that refer to projects and resources, refining filters, and displaying results graphically in other PeopleSoft project and resource management apps. Oracle also has pledged that HCM will be spotlighted at the upcoming OpenWorld 2013 hardware and software expo.

Companies Turn to Tech to Streamline HR
BenefitsPro (08/21/13) Cook, Dan

Companies are increasingly utilizing technology to simplify and rally human resources, according to Towers Watson's 2013 Service Delivery and Technology survey. The poll found that companies are integrating such technologies into their day-to-day operations in response to pressure from the head office, with enterprises desiring HR portals for internal use, apps for finding quality candidates, and other software solutions designed to boost HR's effectiveness and efficiency. "More than half of organizations (53 percent) indicated their investment in HR technology this year will match last year's investment levels, while more than a quarter (27 percent) will either increase or significantly increase their HR technology investment," Towers Watson reports. The poll also found that technology typically establishes a foothold in some other part of the company, and works its way to HR. More than 60 percent of respondents currently supply mobile access to employees via a smartphone, while 24 percent use tablets. Yet only about 10 percent of organizations currently use mobile apps for HR functions. Respondents' top HR improvement priorities include streamlining business processes, enhancing talent and performance management systems, and greater involvement in strategic business-driven issues. The survey also found that 49 percent are shifting toward a shared services environment with HR centers of excellence and HR business partners.
